LUTEAL PHASE DEFECT

This is loosely defined as a luteal phase which is < 12 days.  The luteal phase is the number of days from ovulation to the next menses.  If you are charting basal body temperature (BBT), you should see a sharp increase in BBT after ovulation, and that increase in BBT should be sustained until you start your next period.  If your BBT does NOT stay elevated, this is also a luteal phase defect.

Chinese herbs and dietary changes may help, as well as further analysis of your entire endocrine system.  You may have a mild thyroid, adrenal, and/or gastrointestinal dysfunction contributing to your condition.  These dysfunctions are often so mild, that your doctor may not diagnose you with anything.  In this case, you would be a candidate for functional medicine testing and treatment with specialized nutritional supplements.
